About Us
Hi, I’m Janet; I have owned The Corner Patch since May 2019, having taken over from previous owner, Jane Alcock. I have been a dressmaker all my life (and am also a knitter, spinner and felter) and was tempted to begin patchworking and quilting some years ago. I then found out how addictive it can be!
Having retired from my previous ‘proper’ job, I heard that The Corner Patch was for sale and called into the shop to try to make a decision about buying it. I stood in the lovely shop, surrounded by all those gorgeous fabrics and couldn’t resist. I felt like a child in a sweet shop!
The Corner Patch really is an amazing little patchwork & quilting shop in the historic country town of Eccleshall, Staffordshire. It is hard to believe the range of fabrics that are fitted into the compact space available. It is one of many independent shops within the town, which combine to make Eccleshall a delightful place to visit and shop.
We offer a fabulous range of 100% cotton fabric, plus a small (but expanding) range of dressmaking fabric, a variety of waddings, top-quality Mettler threads, and haberdashery and notions for all your patchwork, quilting and sewing needs.
You will receive a warm welcome in our shop and we are happy to spend time with you discussing your fabric needs, help you with your project or show you how to get started.
Our aim is to encourage and inspire you with all your sewing projects and we offer a full range of workshops and classes for all ages and abilities. From hand piecing to machine quilting, dress making and basic sewing techniques and more – there is something for everyone.
Right next door to The Corner Patch you will find our sister shop, Staffordshire Sewing Machines Ltd. We opened this shop in 2012 and we are authorised retailers of Janome sewing machines, overlockers and accessories.
It is also where you will find our range of specialist dress making fabrics, including jerseys, corduroys, rayons and linens, plus Tessuti dress making patterns, and Metler threads.
The full programme of our classes and workshops is on the website. You can book online or please contact us (details below) for further details. We limit workshops to a maximum of six participants (with a maximum of just 4 students for dressmaking and felting workshops) to ensure everyone has personal attention and can proceed at their own pace whether a beginner of more experienced. We also offer individual tuition if you prefer; this can be on all sewing related topics – getting to know your sewing machine, introduction to patchwork, dressmaking for beginners, making cushions using zips and piping – and much more. Tuition is just £15 / hour and will be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
We also have a series of ‘Sit and Sew’ sessions for you to come and enjoy a relaxed sewing session in the company of like-minded people. Each session costs just £6 which includes use of our computerised sewing machines, rulers, cutting mat and rotary cutter, tea or coffee and biscuits. Again booking is essential as space is limited. Sessions take place on:
Wednesday 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 5pm, 5.30pm – 8.30pm
Friday 10am -1pm, 2pm – 5pm.
If you can’t make it to the shop, you can browse through our wide range of fabrics in our on-line shop.
We offer a friendly and reliable service and aim to dispatch all postal orders the next working day, using Royal Mail, and offer free delivery on orders over £70 (within the UK).
Please do get in touch if you have any queries relating to our products. We also welcome telephone and postal orders.
